LAKEVILLE — The Lakeville Select Board rescheduled its fall Special Town Meeting to November 18 after discovering Freetown had already booked the originally planned November 9 date. Town Administrator Andrew Sukeforth told the board a $5 million state earmark tied to redeveloping the former Lakeville State Hospital site is moving through an economic development bond bill, though it still needs the governor's signature. The board voted unanimously to lift a townwide hiring freeze for one firefighter position after the department's most junior firefighter resigned to pursue a nursing degree, with the chief calling adequate staffing "almost an insurance policy" against unpredictable call volume.
Members also approved a conflict-of-interest disclosure allowing Deputy DPW Director Dennis Ferreira to continue supervising despite his son's role as a department equipment operator, closed a utility pole hearing for Eversource Energy on County Street, and worked through roughly a dozen board and committee appointments, including correcting under-length terms for two Community Preservation Committee representatives.
