Select Board · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Lakeville's Select Board voted unanimously to form a nine-member committee to study buying a roughly 565-acre Howland Road parcel after owner Karl Malik signaled openness to selling. Town Administrator Andrew Sukeforth said the town has pursued the land, the second-largest in Lakeville, for at least 15 years and targeted a January 31, 2027 report back. Member Lia Fabian will represent the board on the panel, citing the town's past purchase of Betty's Neck as "a phenomenal purchase for the town." Separately, Sukeforth told the board Lakeville's fiscal 2028 pension assessment to the Plymouth County Retirement Association will rise $234,000, driven by a new actuary's lower investment-return projections, and the board voted to send a letter inviting association representatives to explain the numbers.
The board also placed eight of nine special town meeting warrant articles, holding back an abutter-parcel-sale article for further legal review ahead of the November 18 town meeting.
