Lakeville Select Board Hires New Town Counsel, Joins Mayflower Health
Select Board · Meeting of March 17, 2026
Lakeville Select Board hires new town counsel and joins Mayflower health group. The board voted 4-0 Tuesday to award the town's legal services contract to Mead, Tellerman and Costa, ending a roughly two-decade relationship with KP Law effective July 31, 2026. Members also voted 4-0 to move health coverage into the Mayflower Municipal Health Group for fiscal 2027, citing an estimated $700,000 buy-in split 75-25 between the town and employees as current consortium Gateway prepares to disband.
A 3-1 vote reaffirmed support for a forensic-style "agreed upon procedures" audit of the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District's finances, over objections from Superintendent Barbara Starkey, who called the effort "yelling at ghosts." Police Chief Matt Perkins was ratified as acting town administrator during the administrator's planned leave amid the town's pending $1.825 million override.
