Lakeville Select Board approves May 19 override ballot with three separate tax questions

Lakeville Select Board elects new leadership and sets May 19 override vote with up to $4.6 million in permanent tax increases. The five-member board, back to full strength with new member Kristen Howard and returning member Leah Fabian, elected Lorraine Carboni as chair on a 3-2 vote and Chris Plonka as vice chair unanimously at the April 7 reorganization meeting. The board then approved a three-question override ballot: Question 1a seeks a permanent $2,615,700 annual levy increase starting in fiscal year 2027, while Questions 1b and 1c each seek an additional $1,000,000 in fiscal years 2028 and 2029, for a combined potential increase of $4,615,700.

Town Administrator Andrew told the board the questions must be separate because state law requires distinct questions for increases in different fiscal years. The board also moved up the start date for new town counsel Mead, Talaman and Costa LLC from July 31 to April 7, citing urgency from the outgoing firm KP Law ahead of budget and town meeting season. Community outreach sessions on the override are scheduled at the public library on April 25, April 29, May 6, and May 13, all from 6 to 7 p.m.
