Select Board appoints Trost to school committee seat
School Committee · Meeting of March 5, 2026
Lakeville Select Board appoints Catherine Trost to fill a vacant Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Committee seat after a botched second vote forced a do-over plan. Trost, a Brockton Public Schools psychologist, beat out candidates Siobhan Miller and Lauren Began following individual interviews focused heavily on the district's budget strain. The board's roll-call vote for Trost passed unanimously, but a competing nomination for Began was never properly seconded, prompting school committee members to object that "we do not approve of how that just transpired whatsoever." The board then voted, again unanimously, to table the procedural question and seek a legal opinion before reconvening.
Trost's term runs through April 2027; two more Lakeville seats are expected on next year's town ballot.
