LAKEVILLE — Freetown-Lakeville principals detail budget cuts eliminating specialists and swelling class sizes. Grace Intermediate Principal Dr. Sullivan said cutting an entire fourth-grade team pushed class size to 25, calling it "not what's best for students." Apponequet High lost an assistant principal, a secretary and its entire 50-seat Virtual High School program.
Curriculum Director Terry Fleming reported the district lost $181,739 in Title I funding, forcing an eligibility waiver for Assawompset Elementary School. The committee voted unanimously to waive a second reading and adopt a state-mandated student-protection policy on law enforcement interactions, with member Tim Emery calling the compressed deadline "a little silly." Members also accepted $65,000 in two career-pathway grants and voted to draft a letter to the Lakeville Select Board raising concerns about a proposed Howland Road development.
