LAKEVILLE — The Middleboro-Lakeville Herring Fishery Commission voted 4-1 to appoint Krill Carson as an observer for the 2027 season despite concerns she organized an unauthorized effort to carry herring in nets across Wareham Street during this year's festival. One member said he "got tagged by a couple of citizens that were very upset with that." The commission unanimously reappointed longtime observer Cindy and voted unanimously, on a motion by member Ron, to tell the Nature Conservancy it has no objection to a proposed pond drawdown test near the Nemasket River outside fish migration periods. Member Dave, now handling Nature Conservancy correspondence while member Tom recovers from surgery, said he doubted the drawdown would hurt migrating fish.
The commission also held off filing a Community Preservation Act funding request this cycle, with Dave saying he did not want to submit another application "without hard numbers."
